Objective: to evaluate the in vitro antifungal effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Solanum sessiliflorum (cocona) against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Materials and Methods: quantitative, experimental and applied study. 1.6 kg of cocona fruits were used to prepare the extract by dynamic maceration for 10 days. Solubility tests and phytochemical screening were performed, and the well diffusion technique (modified Kirby Bauer) was applied with 95%, 90% and 75% dilutions of the extract, versus fluconazole as a control. Results: the extract was highly soluble in 70° ethanol and showed the presence of phenolic compounds, α, β unsaturated lactones and anthocyanins. The hydroalcoholic extract of Solanum sessiliflorum did not show antifungal effect in vitro against Candida albicans ATCC 10231.
