Introduction: type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that affects millions of people and is associated with physical and emotional complications. Factors such as depression, stress, anxiety and distress hinder adherence to treatment, complicate disease control and increase complications, affecting quality of life. This study analyzes the impact of these factors on adherence to treatment and the management of type 2 diabetes. Methods: ten scientific articles published in the last five years, selected from academic databases, were analyzed. The studies evaluated the impact of psychological factors in patients with type 2 diabetes. Papers without experimental data were excluded and the findings were organized by qualitative synthesis and thematic categorization. Results: stress, distress and depressive symptoms had a negative influence on adherence to treatment, while isolated depression had a lesser impact. These factors reduced treatment satisfaction and complicated glycemic control, increasing health risks. Conclusion: psychological factors significantly affect treatment adherence and management of type 2 diabetes, highlighting the need to address them to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life of patients.
