Given the current problem of water shortage, the exploitation of underground water resources has become the most efficient alternative to satisfy this need; however, not all people can access this resource due to the high cost required for access. Given this problem, several authors have conducted research on the design of drilling rigs for well construction. The authors have opted to use hydraulic or pneumatic technology, leaving aside mechanical technology; however, the mechanical system is an easy-to-build and economical system, which with a correct design can perform the same work as its competitors. In this research, a mechanical drilling rig was designed using the morphological matrix as a tool, theoretical calculations and using SolidWorks software. The chosen design is a low-cost mechanical system that can be built locally and is easy to assemble; this design uses simple elements such as reducers, pulleys, transmission belts and centrifugal pumps. With the selected design, a drilling depth of 70 meters is foreseen in formations with a compressive strength of 50 MPa. The theoretical calculations were validated using the FEM of the SolidWorks software ensuring f.d.s. greater than 2,5. Finally, the cost required for the manufacture of the machine is S/ 41,089.00, which is accessible with the cost analysis performed.
