The present investigation had as objective: to determine the effectiveness of the use of 2% chlorhexidine in the bath of patients in the ICU for the reduction of nosocomial infections. Chlorhexidine is a biocide that plays a crucial role in the prevention of infections by bacteria, an input that could be used during the bath routinely within the care of the patient, the purpose of nursing is to help neutralize dangerous situations and reduce the percentage of nosocomial infections attributed as the first cause of mortality; being of interest to ask "What is the effectiveness of the use of 2% chlorhexidine during the bath in ICU patients for the prevention of nosocomial infections?", using a systematic review in the context of evidence-based nursing, gave us the opportunity to investigate and answer our question. Starting the search with words recognized worldwide using MeSH and DeCS guiding three search engines (PUMED, SCIELO, SCIENCE) showing 675 articles, through filters 7 documents remained between theses and scientific articles submitted for validation by Gálvez Toro, and only 3 of them were submitted to the CASPe form that helped to select the article for critical comment: "Hygiene with chlorhexidine in ICU to prevent nosocomial infections". This systematic review had a level of evidence II and grade of recommendation A. Concluding that the effectiveness of 2% chlorhexidine gluconate only has an effect on Gram-positive bacteria and not on Gram-negative bacteria.
