The child presents multifaceted crises due to surgical trauma, coupled with high-tech devices, invasive and painful procedures. The importance of preventing these effects lies in the implementation of programs for the attention of psychological and emotional needs. The levels of anxiety in a surgical procedure require special methodologies to become familiar with the staff and surgical environment. The Critical Review aimed to describe the impact of a didactic educational program to reduce anxiety in preschoolers undergoing surgery. The methodology used was the EBE where the PICOT question was formulated and information was investigated in qualified databases: Google academic, Up to date, Evidentia, Index and Scielo. We obtained 15 scientific articles evaluated in the Validity and Apparent Usefulness Guide of Gálvez Toro, only one of these fulfilled the check list to answer the clinical question. It was concluded that the didactic educational programs offer the child undergoing surgery various methodologies to reduce anxiety such as audiovisuals, toys and puppets, these will help to familiarize with the environment and the staff.
