Introduction: Newborn care is vital because it has a positive or negative impact on reducing neonatal mortality. Objective: To understand the cultural care of the newborn from the experience of mothers who go to a health center in Chiclayo, 2023. Methodology: A qualitative approach was used, with a descriptive - exploratory design, the sample was made up of 13 mothers of RN who attended the health center in any control, chosen from a population of 25, with non-probabilistic, intentional sampling and the sample size is determined by saturation and redundancy criteria. The interview was used as a technique and the semi-structured interview guide as an instrument. , validated by expert judgment and pilot testing. The data were processed through thematic content analysis and met criteria of ethical and scientific rigor. Results: 5 categories emerged: care practices: umbilical cord hygiene, skin care practices: newborn hygiene, care practices: feeding the newborn, care practices: feeding the newborn, objects and actions in the cultural vs. professional care of the newborn and family and social support in the care of the newborn. Conclusion: The care of the newborn involves cultural traditions, maternal advice and medical guidelines, which range from the manipulation of the umbilical cord to feeding and the use of objects and actions that demonstrate cultural vs. professional care, highlighting rituals and the use of protective amulets. . , all in a supportive family and community environment in search of healthy upbringing of the newborn.
