Objective: To explore the production of knowledge about hospital nursing working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: review of systematic literature following five stages, with a search strategy applied in databases (Scopus, Pubmed, VHL, Google Scholar) following a protocol recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute. The selection of documents was carried out by two independent reviewers. The data were analyzed thematically and synthesized using AtlasTi.24 software with its own license. Results: The final sample was composed of 22 articles and the contents were synthesized in four conceptual categories: (a) Precarious working conditions; (b) Shortage of personal protective equipment; (c) Deterioration of the mental health of nurses; and (d) Work overload. Conclusion: The working conditions experienced by nursing professionals during the pandemic, such as job insecurity, work overload, lack of personal protective equipment, intuitive practices without scientific evidence, symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia, among others, increased the probability of leaving work and affected nurses' mental health.
