Introduction: Pregnancy is a complex process that involves psychological, hormonal, behavioral, and physical adaptations. During these transformations, various pathologies may arise, including postpartum depression, a frequently neglected condition that affects women in the first six months after delivery. In Peru, the health system faces deficiencies in timely mental health care and attention, which highlights the urgent need to strengthen strategies for mental health care and promotion in pregnant and postpartum women. Objectives: To determine the performance of the "Protocol for the detection of depression during pregnancy and postpartum and support for treatment produced by the Ministry of Health of Chile" and the "Clinical Practice and Procedure Guide in Obstetrics and Perinatology" to establish the diagnosis of postpartum depression in a population of postpartum women in a level III-1 hospital in Lima, Peru. Materials and Methods: Prospective observational cohort analytical study to evaluate the performance of two technical guides in the diagnosis of postpartum depression. The study included 254 postpartum women recruited in the maternity wards of a national level III-1 hospital. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of each guideline will be analyzed, comparing them with the results obtained through a psychiatric evaluation. This evaluation will consist of the application of the PHQ-9 instrument and, when necessary, a complementary psychiatric interview. Conclusions: With an early diagnosis, serious complications of postpartum depression can be prevented, such as deterioration in the mother-child bond, abandonment of childcare and increased risk behaviors.
