The objective of this research study was "To determine the relationship between antecedents of urinary tract infection and preterm delivery in postpartum women attended at Hospital II - 2 Tarapoto, 2017", non - experimental, quantitative, descriptive and retrospective research. The sample consisted of 189 clinical records of puerperal women with urinary tract infection, and the data collection card was used as an instrument. Results: frequency of urinary tract infection was: 52.4% had a history during adolescence, 29.6% during the current pregnancy and 24.2% in the previous pregnancy. The types of urinary tract infection were: asymptomatic bacteriuria with 50.3%, followed by cystitis with 40.7% and acute pyelonephritis (9.0%). The type of preterm delivery according to the most predominant gestational age was prematurity limit in 61.4% of cases and moderate prematurity in 25.9%. The characteristics of preterm delivery according to maternal risk factors and signs and symptoms were: maternal age between 20 - 34 years 69.8%, secondary education degree 57.1%, urban residence 54.5%, personal history of pelvic surgery - uterine 32.8%, obstetric history of 2 or more abortions 59.8%, parity between 1 to 2 children 67.7% and housewife occupation 61.9%. However, the most frequent signs and symptoms reported: uterine contractions 51.9%, fluid loss through the vagina 29.6% and presence of pain in the lumbar area 10.6%. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the history of urinary tract infection and preterm delivery, when applying the non-parametric chi square test with a level of significance of 95%, the degree of dependence being that there is a relationship between both variables, X2 = 39,768 and p = 0.0010 (p <0.05).
