Water is a vital natural resource for the existence of life, their supplies in population centers is increasingly greater demand mainly due to demographic changes; consequently, increased housing density and the current management model, causes increased requirement for urban and infrastructure equipment where excessive water consumption is generated. The availability of water consumption is at risk due to the damages they have suffered major supply sources (wells, ponds, basins), excessive extraction of water from wells, drying lakes, pollution of rivers, pollution mainly aquifers. The following study is a contribution to the processes of water management, which presents the conceptual engineering of a proposed design of a system of rainwater harvesting for domestic purposes, as an alternative to saving drinking water, supplying water to the apparatus that do not require is potable, as in the case of cleaning toilets (toilets and urinals). For this case study is developed in Barrio La Florida - Yurimaguas. (1) calculation of the available volumes of rainwater in the study area, (2) assessment of the volume of potable water saved with the use of rainwater, (3) estimated budget: four main aspects focuses on this document for construction and projection system saving generated by using the proposed solution and (4) Elaboration of NPV (Net Present Value) in order to be able to evaluate the suitability of carrying out the project. The results suggest that rainwater harvesting is a technically viable option, but requires an initial investment in time is retrieved, so you can be a good solution to contribute to the management and sustainable development; it is preferable that the system is implemented during the construction process of new housing, because that way is easier and cheaper.
