The populated center of Pampa Hermosa, district of Yurimaguas, province of Alto Amazonas; it is supplied with the waters of the river Shanusi; which presents high turbidity and color, surpassing the values established by the Environmental Quality Standards (ECAs); which constitutes an environmental problem. By means of this research work, with the jar test technique it was possible to determine for aluminum sulfate the optimum dose obtained at a concentration of 1% aluminum sulphate adding 20mg / L to 150 RPM rapid mix (1.5 minutes), 25 RPM slow mix (15 minutes), sedimentation (10 minutes), thus achieving a decrease of 99.20% turbidity, 79.92% total dissolved solids, 100% color and at pH, although it decreases it, keeps it within the maximum permissible limit of ( 6.5-8.5) pH; The optimal dose for cassava starch was obtained at a concentration of 2% aluminum sulfate by adding 40mg / L to 250 RPM quick mix (1.5 minutes), 38 RPM slow mix (15 minutes), sedimentation (10 minutes), achieving decrease 96.82% turbidity, 25.95% total dissolved solids, 73.39% color and keep the pH within the maximum allowable limit of (6.5-8.5) pH. According to the tests carried out, cassava starch can be used as an alternative for the primary treatment of the water of the Shanusi River, since its effectiveness was shown to decrease the aforementioned parameters, besides it has many advantages for being an organic coagulant; but specific studies on color should be carried out because it is the only parameter that is not found within the LMPs established in DS No. 031-2010-SA, in turn it is worth mentioning the demonstrated efficiency of aluminum sulphate, since that when using it also decreases the evaluated parameters, although the pH varies a lot, for this reason specific studies on pH must be carried out.
