The following research work responds to the question: What are the factors associated with dehydration in children under 5 years of age with acute diarrheal disease seen in the Hospital II - 2 MINSA -Tarapoto. Period January - August 2018 ?. For this, the general objective was stated: To know the factors associated with dehydration in children under 5 years of age with acute diarrheal disease treated in the Hospital II - 2 MINSA -Tarapoto. January - August 2018. The materials and method: An analytical, retrospective, observational study of cases and controls was carried out, with a sample of 54 patients for cases and 54 patients for controls. The results: Of the group of cases presented mild dehydration with 79.6%, moderate dehydration with 18.5% and severe dehydration 1.9%. The factors associated with dehydration in children under 5 years with acute diarrheal disease are: Presence of vomit OR 3,198 (CI: 1,294 to 7,900); frequency of vomiting> 4 / day OR 1,789 (CI 1,174 to 2,724), stool frequency> 5 / day OR 3,118 (IC 0.516 to 18,840), fever OR 1,890 (IC 1,180 to 3,028), time of illness> 3 days, OR 1,788 (CI 1,134 to 2,818), absence of oral rehydration OR 1,566 (CI 1,060 to 2,314), infant under 24 months OR 1,247 (CI 0.804 to 1.933). Conclusion: The risk factors with the greatest statistical significance for the development of dehydration were: Presence of vomiting, frequency of vomiting> 4 / day, frequency of stools> 5 / day, fever, time of illness> 3 days, absence of oral rehydration, and infant under 24 months.
