The present investigation corresponds to a quantitative, prospective, cross - sectional study with descriptive correlational design. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal determinants and puerperal depression in patients attended at the Morales Health Center, in the period from September 2015 to January 2016, whose sample consisted of 125 puerperal women who met the inclusion criteria . As a technique, the survey was used as a questionnaire to identify the maternal determinants and the socioeconomic characteristics of the population under study. In addition, the Edinburgh test was applied to identify postpartum depression in the study population. The results were: 73% of postpartum women had a positive result regarding the Edinburgh test, that is, they presented with puerperal depression and 27% had a negative result. The maternal biological determinants that are related to puerperal depression are: Number of children (X2 = 9,056, p = 0.029) and complications in pregnancy (X2 = 13,798, p = 0.045) and Edinburgh postpartum depression (p <0.05 ). There is no statistically significant relationship between sociocultural and psychological determinants and Edinburgh postpartum depression (p> 0.05). In conclusion, there is a statistically significant relationship between puerperal depression and maternal biological determinants: Number of children and complications in pregnancy. (P <0.05).
