The majority of populated centres use the streams closest to the area as a source of water for their different uses. In the present research, the water from the Agua Amarilla stream is taken as the study variable, the main objective being to evaluate the impact of chemical and physical treatment on the quality of the stream's drinking water. The physical-chemical treatment with jug test and electrocoagulation has a significant impact, with electrocoagulation being more effective. Considering that the initial physical parameters were: Turbidity 5.26 UNT, Colour 298 Pt/Co, TDS 13 mg/L, chemical: pH 7.36, Nitrates 0.3 mg/L, Iron (II) 0.85 mg/L and microbiological: Total coliforms 92 NMP/100mL; it is determined that the optimum dose for the jar test treatment in a sample with 500 mL of water is: 6 mL of aluminium sulphate at 3% together with 1. 5 mL of 1% cationic polymer and for the electrocoagulation treatment it was determined using a voltage of 30 Volts and an amperage of 2.56; in a time of 40 min. in a 500 mL water sample for the water clarification process; therefore, the use of water using a conventional treatment is recommended.
