The research work was carried out at the Miraflores Farm of the UNSM, located in the district of Banda de Shilcayo, in the province of San Martin, with the hypothesis that hormonally castrated weaned piglets will obtain different productive parameters than surgically castrated pigs. The general objective is to contribute to the knowledge of hormonal castration as an alternative to surgical castration in pigs at the weaning stage. The specific objectives are to determine the health recovery time of surgically castrated weaned piglets in relation to hormonally castrated weaned piglets and to evaluate the productive behavior. The project was developed in three age groups (35 to 45 days, 46 to 60 days and 61 to more days), each age group was divided into two groups (surgical and hormonal castration) and each group consisted of 4 pigs, with 20 male piglets in each group. At the end of the study, it was determined that for ages 35 to 45 days, the Initial Weight (kg), Final Weight (kg), Weight Gain (kg), Feed Consumption FC (kg) and Feed Conversion FCR (kg) did not show significant differences between the studied groups (surgical and hormonal castration), being the p. Value > 0.05. On the other hand, the results were different in the ages from 61 to more days, where it can be observed that only in the Initial Weight (kg), a p. Value > 0.05 was obtained, indicating that there are no differences between the study groups (surgical and hormonal castration); however for the Final Weight (kg), Weight Gain (kg), Feed Consumption FC (kg) and Feed Conversion FCR (kg) there is a difference between the studied groups (surgical and hormonal castration), with the p. Value < 0.05. These results show that hormonal castration is very favorable for the productive parameters of swine production, being also highly recommended for the health and welfare of production animals.
