Objective: To determine the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics as well as comorbidities associated with the development of diabetic foot disease in adults over 50 years old. Hospital II-2 Tarapoto. January 2018 to December 2019. Material and Methods: Observational, retrospective cohort, cross-sectional, and analytical study applied to patients who were hospitalized in the Medicine and Surgery Service, with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a total of 949 patients, who formed two groups: patients with diabetic foot (n= 50 cases) and patients without diabetic foot (n= 100 controls). The data were obtained from the medical records. Results: Prevalence of 5.27% for the study period, in this age group of cases. The male sex showed a statistically significant association, p= 0.005; OR= 2.704; 95% CI (1.33 - 5.49). Adherence to treatment constitutes a protective factor for diabetic foot, p= 0.000, with OR= 0.120, 95% CI (0.048-0.300). Type 2 diabetic patients with a cutoff point of 12,000 leukocytes/ml are associated with diabetic foot, the percentage of leukocytosis is 38%, the Odds Ratio was 11.645, with a 95% CI (4.013 - 33.790) which establishes that leukocytosis is an indicator of risk. Comorbidities, arterial hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia and chronic renal disease were not risk factors for diabetic foot. Conclusions: DM 2 patients with diabetic foot are a public health problem especially in those older than 50 years, with presence of leukocytosis. Adherence to treatment is a protective factor for diabetic foot.
