OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge - beliefs with the attitudes of parents with respect to fever in children under 5 years of age who attend the emergency service and outpatient clinic of pediatrics at Hospital MINSA II-2 Tarapoto, period July - December 2017. METHODOLOGY: The present research study is basic, descriptive correlational with a quantitative, cross-sectional and prospective approach. For the testing of the hypothesis and the relationship between the variables, the descriptive correlational design was used. RESULTS: 335 parents were surveyed, of whom the majority are mothers (77.0%); the most frequent age group is between 20 and 39 years with 89.3%; 33.7% with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary and Higher Education; 49.9% with Civil Convivence status; 84.5% of those studied come from the Urban area; 53.4% of them have only one child; 60% have Work Activity. The level of knowledge and beliefs related to Fever breaking, shows that 95.2% of parents surveyed have Insufficient Knowledge, 4.2% Regular Knowledge and only 0.6% have Good Knowledge. 62.4% of parents have a non-optimal attitude towards the febrile child; 36.7% a regular attitude and only 0.9% of them reflect an Optimal attitude. The descriptive results of the relationship between the characteristics: Level of Knowledge - Beliefs and the Attitude related to the febrile child, show that at a level of Insufficient Knowledge corresponds a Non-Optimal attitude with 63.7% of them; likewise, 100.0% of parents with insufficient knowledge have an optimal null attitude with only 0.6%. Applying the Chi-squared value shows us that X2C (11.49)> X2T (9.48), so there is a significant relationship (P <0.05) between the Level of Knowledge - Beliefs and the Attitude of the parents of children under 5 years of age with respect to Fever-hood in Minsa II-2 Tarapoto Hospital. CONCLUSIONS: 95.2% of the participants presented a level of Insufficient Knowledge and 62.4% showed a Non-Optimal attitude, it was demonstrated that at a level of Insufficient Knowledge corresponds a Non-Optimal attitude with 63.7% of them; likewise, 100.0% of parents with insufficient knowledge have an optimal null attitude with only 0.6%. Applying the bivariate Chi-Square method, it was possible to demonstrate that there is a significant relationship between the Level of Knowledge - Beliefs and the Attitude of the parents of children under 5 years of age with respect to Fever-phobia, stating that there is a negative relationship between knowledge and attitude in those involved in the present study.
