Introduction: the process of hospitalization of patients increases levels of stress and anxiety, attributable to uncertainty, the feeling of lack of capacity and helplessness in the face of changes in circumstances, as well as deprivation of independence. The joint prevalence of comorbidity between mental disorders and chronic physical diseases in patients reaches 36.6%. In Peru, there are few studies that examine psychopathological alterations in patients admitted for “clinical and surgical reasons". Objective: to describe the existence of psychopathology in patients hospitalized in the medical and surgical services of the Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, 2023. Material and methods: a descriptive, observational, prospective, cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted. It included all the individuals who were admitted to the Internal Medicine and General Surgery departments of the II-2 Tarapoto Hospital, collecting data in September 2023. In order to perform the necessary calculation to determine the number of participants required in the sample, the application of the Epidat 4.2 program was used, obtaining a figure of 200 patients. The descriptive analysis was performed using SPSS version 26 statistical software, which was used to produce the corresponding tables and graphs. The goodness-of-fit test was carried out by statistical analysis, using the sample by calculating the chi-square, Odds Ratio with a 95% Confidence Interval, and with a significance level set at p<0.05. All bivariate tests with statistical significance were subjected to the Multivariate Linear Logistic Regression model. Results: A total of 107 males (53.5%) and 93 females (46.5%) participated in the study. The mean age was 41.65 ± 18.40 years, with an age range between 18 and 86 years. The marital status was married (37.5%), cohabitant (33.5%); the degree of education was high school (46%) and higher (31.5%), respondents were in medicine in 52.5%, and in surgery 47.5%. The age segment between 18 and 35 years accounted for 45.5% of the total. The length of hospitalization ranged from 2 to 7 days (79%). And they came from the urban area (84%). The sociodemographic variable, educational level, expressed association with psychopathology with OR 2.877; 95% CI 1.148 - 7.209 and p< 0.02. Conclusions: there is an association between level of education and psychopathology in patients admitted in the Internal Medicine and General Surgery services of Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, demonstrated by multivariate analysis using the linear regression model (OR= 2.877; 95% CI 1.148 - 7.209 and a value of p<0.02”) with data from September 2023.
