The present study is a descriptive, transversal and prospective study carried out at the Maternity Service of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Regional Hospital of Amazonas - Iquitos, Peru, from March to November 1991. It was found that during this period, there were a total of 1548 pregnant women who entered labor, of which 400 corresponded to primigravidae, where 104 (26%) were adolescents under 18 years of age, 10 (2.5%) years old 35 And 286 (71.5%) formed the control group from 18 to 34 years. In both groups studied, a high rate of pathologies was found during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. During pregnancy, she stressed the toxemia and the premature rupture of membranes, in labor the dystocias of contraction and presentation for the adolescent. For the years was the contraction and pelvis. In the puerperium, uterine atony for the group of the aged and complications of infectious type for the adolescents. No maternal death was found in the studied and control groups. Spontaneous vaginal delivery was more frequent in the adolescent and control group; Cesarean was more frequent in the elderly. Instrumental childbirth was more frequent in the control group than in the study group. Most newborns in the study and control groups had adequate weights, good Apgar at one minute of life and were at term. Hypoxia, cephalohematoma and neonatal infection were the most frequent neonatal morbidities in the study groups. Preterm birth was more frequent in the elderly and control group, which is the main cause of perinatal death.
