Introduction: Neonatal sepsis is one of the diseases with great relevance in ourtcountry, so it is important to recognize its risktfactors. Objectives: To determine the risk factors associated withtneonataltsepsis intpretermtinfants in the II-2 Tarapoto hospital for the period 2021. Material and methods: The present study wasta basic, cross-sectional, retrospective, case-control study. Outsof a population of 100 patients, a sampletof 80 patients was obtained and divided into 40 neonates with neonataltsepsis (cases) and 40 neonates withouttneonataltsepsis (controls). The technique was the review of clinical histories and the instrument was a data collection form. The statistical package SPSS 29 was used to analyze the data using the Chi Square statistical test. The association is considered significant if the possibility is less than 5% (p <0.05). Contingency tables will also be applied to calculate the Odds ratio (cross product). Results:The risk factors associated withtneonataltsepsis intpremature newborns are Low birth weight with p<0.025, OR=2.778 (95% IC: 1.12 – 6.868); APGAR less than 7 points in the first minute with a p<0.043, OR=2.538 (95% IC: 1.023– 6.298); male sex of the newborn with a p<0.044, OR=2.50 (95% IC: 1.016– 6.149); first gestation with p<0.033, OR=2.818 (95% IC: 1.06 – 7.42), CPN less than 6 times with p<0.001, OR: 4.66 (95% IC: 1.764 - 12.311) and rural area with p<0.009, OR= 3.619 (95% IC: 1.341 - 9.765). Conclusion: Severe prematurity, low birth weight, APGAR less than 7 points in the first minute, male sex, first gestation, CPN less than 6 times and place of rural origin are risk factors that present a significant association in the appearance of neonatal sepsis in premature newborns at hospital II-2 Tarapoto, for the 2021 period.
