This research was conducted during the months of April to July 2017, the population was surveyed regarding the occurrence of kidney stones (lithiasis) and other common symptoms related to diseases of the urinary system. At the same time, water samples were taken from two sources of groundwater (2 circular wells), intended for direct consumption, and analyzed to determine the total hardness of it. Of a total of 653 people surveyed (90% of the population), 384 of them (28.33%) claimed to have suffered from lithiasis (kidney stones) according to the INEI Morbidity Rates, 2015. Water hardness (≥150 mg/L of CaCO3) was associated with a high prevalence of lithiasis in the study area. The highest morbidity from kidney stone lithiasis is due to the fact that human drinking water does not have any type of treatment before being consumed. According to the results obtained and the respective analyses, it is concluded that prolonged consumption of water with concentrations greater than 120 mg/L of CaCO3, presents a risk factor in the formation of stones in the urinary tract to the inhabitants of the town of Nuevo Huancabamba, which means an increase in family expenses, thus decreasing their quality of life.
