The overall objective of this research is to evaluate the effects of noise pollution from urban transport on the quality of life of the population of the city of Tarapoto; while the statement of the central hypothesis of the research is described as: "Noise pollution from urban transport in the city of Tarapoto, affects the quality of life of the population", it was proven through the hypothetical method deductive. Data were collected in two stages: In the first, data from measurements of sound pressure levels in 33 measurement points Tarapoto, conducted by the Provincial Municipality of San Martin in October 2011 were taken; while in the second stage, in October 2013, a survey was conducted of 326 households in the districts of Tarapoto, Morales and The Band Shilcayo. The average level of urban transport emanated from the city of Tarapoto noise is 75.4 dBA, a figure that is above permissible limits established by Supreme Decree No. 085-2003 -PCM, rule sets a maximum of 60 dBA for urban areas and 70 dBA for commercial area. For this reason it has been established that the high sound pressure levels substantially affects the quality of life of the people of Tarapoto. Consequently, the population claims to be in a position to contribute the sum of 1.50 soles per month per family in exchange for noise mitigation.
