The San Martin region is one of the main banana-producing regions in Peru, however, the crops lack technification, which affects the optimal use of water resources. For this reason, technology has become the main tool to generate systematized methods that contribute to the proper agricultural water management. The objective of the study was to determine to what extent the use of an automated system based on sensors for irrigation control and monitoring of environmental parameters influences the growth of banana plantations. The sample population consisted of 60 male banana plants (Musa balbisiana) divided into two groups, control and experimental with 30 plants each; water consumption and distribution in the plantation were evaluated, as well as the influence of the system on the height growth of the plants. As a result, an automated system based on Arduino Mega and a network of sensors for the irrigation process was successfully implemented, in addition, a web system was designed to control environmental indicators, consumption and frequency of irrigation in the fields. The automated system saved 53.6% of water with respect to the control group. Through the application of the Student's t-test, the Sig. (bilateral) was 0.697 greater than the P-value 0.05, so it was concluded that the system did not contribute any significant difference with respect to the growth of the banana plantations, but it did contribute to improve the monitoring of environmental parameters and to control the distribution of water in an adequate manner.
