This research is focused on identifying the effect of coverage on access to chlorinated water in homes and the prevalence of acute diarrheal diseases in children under 5 in the district of Awajun, for which a total of 20 town centers have been analyzed in the district. Information has been collected from official sources of the 2017 period to proceed with the data processing and subsequent analysis. Through a descriptive analysis of the information, it has been possible to demonstrate the levels taken by each variable at the level of the whole district and at the level of populated centers, in the same way comparisons have been made between both variables, grouping those population centers that have access to chlorinated water in contrast to those who do not. As a result, it was found that only 4 out of every 10 homes in the Awajun district have access to chlorinated water, with a gap of 1 421 homes, while the prevalence of acute diarrheal diseases was approximately 72 cases per 100 children under 5 years of the district of Awajun in the year 2017. The value of the coefficient of correlation between both variables was -0.24, with a value of the significance of the test of 0.31 which indicates that the variables do not correlate or statistically significant association. Therefore, increasing access to chlorinated water to housing in the population centers of the Awajun district cannot be considered a solution to this problem, since there are other factors related to the prevalence of acute diarrheal diseases.
