The following investigation arises from the constant rationalization of drinking water service in the Tarapoto District, which is only supplied for a few hours a day, leaving the upper sectors without water. That is why the purpose of the research is to explain the impact of population growth on the production of drinking water in the Tarapoto District, 2010-2017. Therefore, the methodology was a quantitative approach, applied type, explanatory level and non-experimental longitudinal design, the data collection instrument was the document analysis guide. The results showed that, from 2012 to 2015, there is a reduction in the volume of water produced, due to the reduction in the collection of raw water and the channel in the different sources, while in 2014-2015 it is where there is less production of water. It was concluded that, at a confidence level of 95%, there is a significant impact between the population growth and the production of drinking water in the Tarapoto District, 2010-2017 period; for which it was feasible to affirm that the shortage of water in the different zones of the District is not due to population growth; but rather to external factors such as deficiencies in the administration of water, the reduction in the collection of raw water and the reduction of the channel in the different sources.
