The methodology used is descriptive for the dendrological study, anatomical and experimental for the physical characteristics of the wood. The results of the dendrological study, supported by scientific information, allowed the precise identification of the Yanchama (Poulsenia armata) (Miq.) Standl. species and its taxonomic classification. For organoleptic characterization, the wood has a spicy flavor, mild odor, light yellow color, medium texture, heterogeneous, medium brightness, grain/parallel bands and golden reflections, crisscrossed grain. Regarding macroscopic characterization, the outer bark of 0.7 cm is cracked, presence of vertical striations, cream color and in the inner bark cream color and presence of white bands; growth rings are not visible to the naked eye; pores are visible also the visible rays; sapwood yellowish; heartwood yellow. Microscopic characterization in tangential section: Fiber: elongated and cross-linked from 1428 to 1750 µm. in radial section. Rays: Presence of 12 rays which is classified in the group of numerous rays (>12 rays/mm linear). In cross section: Pores: Presence of 3 pores and is classified in the group of very few (less than 5 pores/mm2). Physical characteristics classify as medium density, semi-heavy, semi-hard, medium volumetric shrinkage and stable. Thus, wood can be used in the carpentry industry for furniture, including chairs, tables, cabinets and beds, in construction for light structures, including doors and windows. In light box construction, for the elaboration of storage boxes, toys and also for formwork.
