Title: Grade of efficacy on the use of Misoprostol versus Oxytocin in induction labor of patients who had vaginal deliveries in Amazonico Hospital in Yarinacocha – Pucallpa – between March 2010 and March 2012. Investigators: Katty Vela Ramírez, BAO Taty Vela Ramírez, BAO The present aimed to determine the grade of efficacy on the use of Misoprostol versus Oxytocin in induction labor of patients who had vaginal deliveries in Amazonico Hospital in Yarinacocha – Pucallpa – between March 2010 and March 2012. We performed descriptive, comparative and retrospective study of cross section. The sample consisted of 113 medical reports of patients who had induction labor; they were studied according to specific criteria of selection. They were divided in 2 groups considering the inducer type (misoprostol and oxytocin). Both groups were compared: 77 patients who received misoprostol by vaginal route (group 1) versus 36 patients who received oxytocin in infusion (group 2). The results were: Maternal age, gestational age, parity and gravidity do not present meaningful statistical difference in both inducer types. The Score Bishop was significantly lower by using misoprostol (2.68 vs 3.42) than oxytocin. In group misoprostol, the most frequent induction indications were Term xii Pregnancy with risk factors (38%) and Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (35%); and in the oxytocin group the Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) (36%), and Oligohydramnios (22%). Most of patients needed only 1 doses misoprostol (50 micrograms) (72%) or a session of PTC/ induction with intravenous oxytocin (64%) to start labor. The time interval since induction until labor start was significantly higher by using misoprostol in the first 5 hours (86% vs. 61%) (p= 0,038). The time labor within 6 hours was significantly greater in the misoprostol group (79% vs. 36%) (x2= 23,6218) (p= 0,002). The neonates of patients induced with misoprostol and oxytocin showed good APGAR score (≥ 6) and amniotic fluid without the presence of meconium in most cases. We concluded that the Misoprostol was able to induce the labor and vaginal delivery in significantly lower time than oxytocin in patients who had the unfavorable Bishop score.
