The purpose of this research project is to obtain the design of the bearing capacity of the soil of the town of Pacchilla, in order to propose adequate structural designs from the foundation, for the construction of safer and earthquake resistant buildings, according to the mechanical characteristics of the soils in the area of influence. In engineering, soil mechanics is the application of physical laws and natural sciences on problems involving the loads imposed on the surface layer of the earth's crust. This is the reason why the soil is a fundamental part when choosing the type of foundation to be used in a construction project, since due to its characteristics and properties, it is possible to analyze and define the type of soil in which the foundation will be laid, in addition to being aware of the considerable deformations that may occur if the necessary actions are not taken when the pertinent studies are carried out. Consequently, knowing the bearing capacity of the soil indicates the functional behavior, i. e. it implies the limits that must be considered in order to avoid important deformations in the building. However, for this it is necessary to choose the most appropriate foundation, which will result in a greater efficiency in the structural behavior, depending on the subsoil conditions, the size and shape of the construction and the type and magnitude of the loads transmitted. In order to carry out the study, field work, laboratory tests, determination of the bearing capacity by direct shear and settlement were carried out. This result allows to determine the characteristics, properties and admissible load capacity of the foundation soil.
