For this purpose, a basic descriptive study of non-experimental design, cross-sectional and correlational level was developed. The population was composed of students of VI, VII and VIII cycle between males and females, amounting to a total of 110 students. Likewise, the sample consisted of 78 students who met the corresponding inclusion and exclusion criteria. Among the results it was found that, the most used strategy by the students is the coping strategy focused on avoidance with 15% of the total number of students, as for the strategies sometimes used, positive reappraisal stands out with 81% followed by the coping strategy focused on the solution of the problem with 71% and in the strategies not used, open emotional expression predominates with 68% followed by religion with 62%. On the other hand, 33% of the students exhibit moderate symptoms of depression, while 19% show a significant absence of these symptoms, anxiety is notable, with 45% experiencing extremely severe levels and stress with 27% presenting severe levels or significant absence. Finally, the problem-focused strategy was found to be negatively related to depression, but not to anxiety or stress. Emotion-focused strategies have a moderate correlation with depression, anxiety and stress, while avoidance-focused strategies have a weak and non-significant negative correlation with affective disturbances. In conclusion, there is a very low positive correlation (0.148) between coping strategies and affective disturbances of students, with only a 2% influence according to the coefficient of determination (R2).
