One of the serious problems in the conservation and use of water resources is the growing demand of the population concentrated in the cities. In this sense, through this research work was able to determine the topographic physical characteristics, water availability of the Urcuyacu micro basin, water supply source for public human consumption in the Soritor district and surrounding areas, for which field work was established for the evaluation of the physical, biological and socioeconomic components, environmental threats, records of flows at the point of water collection. As a result, the Urcuyacu micro basin has a total area of 1,051.67 hectares. It presents physical, biological and socioeconomic characteristics with great water potential and conservation, due to its location and accessibility and which is currently being affected by the growing demand for land. Agricultural. It records a total water availability of 391, 856.85 m3 / month, for the different activities that take place inside and outside the micro basin. One of the main uses given to the water resource that is generated in the micro basin is the supply of water for human consumption of the population of the city of Soritor, which gives a high level of importance because it is a health use and public need. The demand of the average consumption per month of the 4,080 water connections that the city of Soritor and surroundings presents is 122,400 m3 / year, and the water availability is 391, 856.85 m3 / month; that is to say, only 31.3% is used for the drinking water supply of the city of Soritor and nearby towns, this indicates that the water generated at the point of water collection is sufficient for the public supply for human consumption. 68.7% of water generated in the micro-basin is available for other uses, which turns it into a micro-basin with great potential and its conservation will only be carried out by implementing conservation projects because it is the water pantry of the Soritor district populations.
