The present research is focused on the water problems and threats to the aquatic biota of the Rumiyacu River, in the District of Moyobamba, San Martín, Perú. In order to determine the influence of anthropogenic activities on the environment's water quality, it was necessary to measure the parameters in said quality. These assessments, carried out at three sampling points, referenced as the upper, middle and lower parts of the microbasin, found the existence of a negative influence from anthropogenic activity, evidenced in existing fecal coliforms, with the most severe contamination shown in the lower part of the microbasin. Conversely, the identification of aquatic biota was carried out at eight sampling points, divided amongst the basin headwater area (2 points), the translation area (4 points) and the emission area (2 points), using traditional fishing methods and exploration. Four species were obtained: the shrimp (Cryphius amazonicus), the bujurqui (Aequidens rivulatus), the guppy (Poecilia reticulata) and the churro (Pomacea maculata); the most abundant species being the guppy, dominating in 5 sample points, while the churro showed the lowest population at 7 sampling points. We recommend the implementation of environmental education campaigns because they are a means to promote the responsible concepts of protection and conservation of watersheds, as they are an invaluable natural resource.
