The objective of this research is to explain the impact of the demographic transition on the economic growth of the San Martin region from 2007 to 2020. It was a basic research, with a descriptive explanatory design. The sample consisted of a historical database on demographic transition and economic growth for the 14 years of the study, using database analysis as a technique and the database guide as an instrument. As a result, the San Martin region is facing a demographic transition process with a birth rate of 25.1% and a mortality rate of 3.38% on average for the 14 years studied. A decrease of 8% in the immigrant population and 3% in the emigrant population is observed, due to better living conditions in their place of birth, while the adult population aged 60 years and older tends to increase. There is a low dependency ratio, which indicates that there are more active producers and fewer dependents, which shows that the population is in the full transition phase and is within the demographic bonus period, which represents a great opportunity for the San Martin region. In the economic aspect, the gross domestic product at constant prices of the San Martin region for the period 2007 to 2020, has been growing positively reaching from 3,266,254 in 2007 to 5,862,804 in 2020 despite the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020. The agricultural sector is the largest contributor to the economy, and those that contribute the least are the fishing sector, lodging, restaurants and other sectors that move the economy and contribute to the GDP, taking into account that this production comes from an economy with high rates of informality in the labor market. The conclusion is that the impact of the demographic transition is 16.87 monetary values on economic growth. Likewise, there is a high and positive Pearson relationship between the variables of 0.93, where the demographic transition explains 79.44% of the economic growth, confirming the research hypothesis that there is a positive impact between the variables studied.
