The objective of the research was to determine the impact generated by the management of polyethylene bags at the household level, on the population of the city of Moyobamba, for which the characteristics of the population regarding the use and knowledge of biodegradable bags were first identified, the amount of plastic bags generated by the population in their daily activities was established, and the effect of the training was determined. In terms of methodology, a sample of 20 families were tested before and after the experiment. The results of the research indicate that significant achievements were obtained in terms of management of polyethylene bags, given that 85% of the inhabitants have knowledge about biodegradable or reusable bags and are willing to pay for them, 75% of the inhabitants agree to replace the use of traditional plastic bags with other more ecological alternatives such as fabric bags. On the other hand, 70% of the inhabitants stated that they use 1 to 2 single-use plastic bags in the same purchase and 100% of the inhabitants stated that they would not be affected by the measure to remove them from the market. Likewise, the weekly consumption of single-use bags per family was reduced from 0.680 kg to approximately 0.388 kg, which means that the actions carried out in the research had positive results. The results were confirmed when performing the hypothesis test for paired samples where it was demonstrated that the pretest scores were significantly lower than those obtained in the posttest, therefore, the impact of the management of polyethylene bags at the household level has been positive.
