The objective of this study was to compile bibliographic information on the impacts generated by the increase of cocoa production areas in the province of Mariscal Caceres, San Martin. Regarding the methodology, the study was descriptive and exploratory. Reliable sources and bibliographic background were used. The impact generated by the increase in cocoa production areas in the province of Mariscal Cáceres was described and the cocoa areas were characterized. It is concluded that the impacts generated by the increase in cocoa production areas in the province of Mariscal Caceres, has had mixed effects, positively generated 20 000.00 jobs increasing 41% in income and development of the local economy with sales of 13 775.00(t), however, in 2022, negative impacts have been generated, such as deforestation of 1,672.54 ha-1 , loss of biodiversity, environmental problems associated with the use of agrochemicals, affecting water resources and increasing pollution. At the socioeconomic level, there are improvements in income, infrastructure and education, but producers face social challenges. Based on the characterization of the cocoa areas in the Province of Mariscal Cáceres, the five districts plant this crop at a production cost of S/ 6076.00, the district with the highest production is Campanilla, with 1170.00 kg/ ha-1 at a sale price of S/ 7.65 with a profitability percentage of 47.3% and a profit/cost ratio of 1.47, which indicates that for each sol invested, the district obtains a profit of 0.47 cents. Consequently, this indicates that the best district for cocoa production is Campanilla. Likewise, the expansion of this crop in the last five years has decreased to 13,778.00 ha-1 in this district.
