The aim of this research was to determine the factors associated with placenta previa in pregnant women hospitalized at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of the Hospital MINSA II-2 Tarapoto from May to November 2019. The study was descriptive, observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional, under a non-experimental design approach. The sample was made up of 66 pregnant patients hospitalized at the Gynecology and Obstetrics service of the Hospital MINSA II-2 Tarapoto with a diagnosis of placenta previa corresponding to the period from May to November 2019. The main results obtained were: 56% of the patients had marginally inserted placenta previa, 29% total insertion, 9% partial insertion and 6% low insertion. Out of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 40 were between 20 to 34 years old, 18 were older than 35 years old and 8 were younger than 20 years old. Of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 58 did not have a cesarean section and 8 did. Of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 48 never miscarried and 18 miscarried more than once. Of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 63 had no history of multiple pregnancies and 3 did. Of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 37 were multiparous, 21 were nulliparous and 8 were primiparous. Of the 66 patients who were diagnosed with placenta previa, 29 had no intergestational period, 26 had an adequate period of 18 to 59 months, 7 had a long period greater than 59 months, and 4 had a short period of less than 18 months. It is concluded that the factors associated with placenta previa in pregnant patients were age, number of parity and the inter-gestational period, all with a Sig.<0.05 value; with the exception of previous cesarean section, abortion and multiple pregnancy due to their low frequency in this research.
