The general objective of the research was to analyze the relationship between systemic thinking and the problem-solving model in third grade high school students of the "Santa Rosa" Educational Institution in Tarapoto; the specific objectives were to measure the relationship between systemic thinking and the problem-solving model, to determine the academic, material and methodological causes that lead to low achievement in problem solving with the constructivist model, and to design a model based on systemic thinking for the resolution of complex mathematical problems. The research was of the basic type, correlational level, non-experimental design with a descriptive-correlational research scheme. The census sample consisted of 163 students. The hypothesis stated that there is a relationship between systemic thinking and problem solving in third grade students of the "Santa Rosa" Educational Institution. The study concluded with the existence of a very high and positive relationship between systemic thinking and the problem solving model. The results of the research indicated that Kendall's tau-b measurement of the relationship between systems thinking and problem solving model was 0.918; for a bilateral test with p-value = 0.000 < 0.05; there are academic, material and methodological causes that cause low achievement in mathematical problem solving with the constructivist model; furthermore the model based on systems thinking will allow articulation and interrelation with complex mathematical problem solving.
