Effect of plastic mulching on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L.", under tropical conditions in San Martin. Lettuce is one of the leafy vegetables, with great importance in consumption, being very required in diets, mainly in fresh as salads, providing nutritionally minerals and vitamins. In the San Martin region, lettuce production is taking place in small and medium plots, being the province of Lamas one of the most renowned in lettuce production. This research work was carried out in the Aucaloma farm of the UNSM, at kilometer 8 of the Morales - San Antonio de Cumbaza highway, in the district of Morales, department of San Martin, between August and December 2022. The application of three colors of plastic mulch on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L." is considered, having as main objective: to evaluate the effect of three colors of plastic mulch on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L.", under the tropical conditions of the San Martin region. The specific objectives are: a) To analyze the yields when three colors of plastic mulch are used on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L.", under tropical conditions in the San Martin region, b) To determine the effect on pests, diseases and weeds when three colors of plastic mulch are used on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L.", under tropical conditions in the San Martin region, and c) To interpret the economic analysis using three colors of plastic mulch on two varieties of lettuce "Lactuca sativa L.", under tropical conditions in the San Martin region. The results showed that, according to the yield indexes in lettuce production, the colors of plastic mulch (Black 20 µm, Blue 20 µm and White 20 µm) and the varieties (Alface Veneranda and Paris Island Cos) had no effect on the seedling yield (cm) and the number of leaves/plant, however, there were significant differences between treatment means (p<0.05) in root length, stem diameter, weight per plant and yield (t/ha). In terms of phytosanitary indices, insects such as leaf cutters were found with Gryllus sp of the Gryllidae family and Gryllotalpa sp of the Gryllotalpidae family, as well as species of the Formicidae and Tettigoniidae families; the most frequent diseases found were Fusarium spots, and with respect to weeds, species of broadleaf and narrowleaf were found in a relatively low frequency. The economic analysis shows that T1 (Alface Veneranda/Black 20 µm) has a profitability of 88.52%, which indicates that there is a profit of 0.89 cents acquired for each peruvian sol invested, while T6 (Paris Island Cos/White 20 µm) is the least profitable with 84.99%, which means that for each peruvian sol invested there is a net profit of 0.85 cents.
