To determine the correlation between the degree of severity of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's dementia and depression in elderly patients at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo. Methods: A cross-sectional, analytical and observational study was carried out. The sample consisted of 60 patients attended during the period 2022 to 2023, who were surveyed by previously signing an informed consent form. Two instruments were used: The first, Mini – Mental State Examination to classify the variable of cognitive impairment of Alzheimer's dementia and the second, Yesavage Test to study the degree of depression. The information obtained was recorded in a virtual database in Excel and processed using the SPSS version 27.0 statistical program. And to determine the degree of association, use was made of Spearman's Rho test, and the test was considered significant with a p value ≤ 0.05. Results: The results showed that 51.7% of older adult patients presented a slight cognitive impairment, while 31.7% of them experienced severe depression, with a predominance in the male gender. Furthermore, a moderate-high and statistically significant positive association will be observed between the investigated variables, with a Spearman's Rho coefficient of 0.699 and a p value < 0.001. Conclusion: We conclude that there is a moderate-high and statistically significant positive correlation between the degree of severity of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's dementia and depression, indicating that as cognitive impairment increases, the severity of depression also increases
