To determine if hypertension is a risk factor for developing tinnitus in patients treated at the “Hospital de Especialidades Básicas la Noria” during the period from January 31, 2022 to January 31, 2024. Materials and methods: A case-control study was carried out, which included 218 patients diagnosed with tinnitus and 218 patients without diagnosis of tinnitus treated by the otorhinolaryngology service at the La Noria Basic Specialty Hospital, according to selection criteria. Chi-square statistics and odds ratio were calculated. Results: Of the patients with tinnitus, the median age was 65 years, there were 66.5% women and 33.5% men; in addition, 34.4% suffered from high blood pressure. Of those without tinnitus, the median age was 46 years, 58.3% were women and 41.7% were men; in addition, 14.2% suffered from high blood pressure. According to the Odds Ratio (OR) test, by multivariate analysis, high blood pressure was a significant risk factor for developing tinnitus (ORa = 1.97; 95% CI = 1.19 – 3.27; p = 0.01). Similarly, age greater than or equal to 58 years was also a significant risk factor for tinnitus (ORa = 3.26; 95% CI = 2.14 – 4.97; p = 0.01) Conclusion: High blood pressure is a risk factor for the development of tinnitus in patients at the La Noria basic specialty hospital.
