Biodiesel was obtained from lipids of Ankistrodesmus sp. under conditions of nitrogen deficiency in the Peruvian Amazon. This Amazonian microalgal species was cultivated in BG-11 medium with and without nitrogen under laboratory conditions in triplicate in nineteen days. The growth profile was evaluated by making records of initial and interspersed readings with a Nanodrop spectrophotometer. The biomass production was obtained from the final harvest. Total lipids determination was carried out by the Folch modified method. derivatization was carried out with the method of Ichihara and Fukubayashi. The FAMEs were extracted with hexane by gas chromatograph. Lipids were characterized by the acid number (0.42), iodine number (117.20 g iodine/100 g oil) and saponification number (263.94 mg KOH/ g oil) parameters. The value obtained from the acidity index determined to carry out an alkaline transesterification to obtain biodiesel. The results indicated with respect to the growth profile and biomass production that did not present statistically significant differences between control (BG-11 medium with nitrogen) and treatment (BG-11 medium without nitrogen). However, the treatment, it presented a greater accumulation of total lipids (19.88%) and a higher content of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids was obtained (56.31 mg FA / g sample) as well as an adequate content of oleic acid (23.94) and palmitic acid (21.91). In the transesterification reaction, a yield of 85.11% was obtained in the treatment and 67.59% in the control, when 2% of catalyst (NaOH) was used, alcohol: oil molar ratio 12:1 and time reaction time 90 minutes. Therefore, biodiesel with good yield was obtained from lipids of Ankistrodesmus sp. under conditions of absence of nitrogen.
