Objectives: To determine whether age, sex, time of disease, leukocytosis, hematocrit, glycemia, creatinine, total bilirubin, and serum amylase are factors associated with the permanence of computerized axial tomographic indication in patients with suspected acute pancreatitis. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo, in which 623 patients with suspected acute pancreatitis were evaluated, after excluding those who did not meet the selection criteria, the final sample was 573 patients. Results: Bivariate analysis identified hematocrit, serum glycemia, serum creatinine and serum amylase as factors associated with tomographic relevance versus those in whom there was not adequate tomographic indication. Multivariate analysis identified variables independently associated with tomographic relevance in patients with suspected acute pancreatitis at the time of illness (ORa = 1.167 95% CI [1.012-1.345], serum amylase (ORa = 1.000 95% CI [1.000-1.001]), and glycemia (ORa = 1.010 95% CI [1.002-1.018]). Conclusions: Time of disease, serum amylase and glycemia were associated Independently with tomographic relevance in patients with suspected acute pancreatitis.
