ABSTRACT Unregulated coal mining in northern Peru has become a major problem, characterized by the emergence of criminal human groups posing as artisanal miners. Therefore, this research focuses on analyzing how informal coal mining contributes to the development of an anthropocentric perception in the Charat-Otuzco ecosystem. To address this issue in a comprehensive manner, a mixed approach with a DEXPLOS design is adopted. The sample included 40 individuals from the district of Charat, to whom observation techniques, questionnaire and interview were applied. Conclusive findings indicate that informal exploitation intensifies anthropocentric vision, resulting in significant damage not only to the local ecosystem, but also to the surrounding social structure. In addition, there is a lack of progress in the adjacent areas where the ore is sold, evidenced above all in the lack of adequate infrastructure, despite the considerable sums of money that are acquired in each illegal operation by informal miners.
