ABSTRACT The research project “Characterization study of the Chicama river aggregates for construction purposes. sector Coina. Usquil. Otuzco. Freedom. 2019. " It arose from the need to know the characterization study of the aggregates that are extracted in the Coina community and consequently to know if they meet the requirements established in the NTP 400.037 to be used in the preparation of concrete. In this project, the main objective was to carry out the characterization study of the aggregates and the specific objectives were: Determine the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the aggregates, determine the percentage of contamination with organic matter of the fine aggregate, carry out a design of mixtures for concrete with a resistance of 210 kg / cm2 and finally elaborate specimens of 10 x 20 cm to determine the compressive strength. To determine the physical, mechanical and chemical properties, the methods established in the Peruvian technical regulations were used, for the design of mixtures the AC211 method was used and for the statistical part the ACI 214R standard was used, the tests were carried out in the laboratory of rural constructions, concrete and recycling laboratory and in the LASACI laboratory of the National University of Trujillo. The physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the aggregates were determined, the fine aggregate meets the granulometry requirements, however it has a percentage of contamination by organic matter of 3.63% and carbon or lignite of 1.16, which are above what established by the NTP 400.037; the coarse aggregate presented a small gap in the granulometry on the ½ ”sieve, where the minimum percentage according to the standard must be 90% and the aggregate under study was 87.042%, the percentage of abrasion wear was 17.9% and according to the standard it can be up to 50%. The design of mixtures was carried out and then the concrete specimens were elaborated that were tested at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days, obtaining average strengths of 150.5, 179.2, 218.3 and 245.2 kg / cm² respectively; that is, the design strength was satisfactorily achieved.
