Abstract: Hoy en día urge preservar el conocimiento ancestral sobre el uso de la flora medicinal en comunidades Andino-amazónicas, frente a la globalización y demás acontecimientos que nos alejan cada día más de nuestro arraigo cultural. En este contexto, se llevó a cabo una investigación en la comunidad de Santo Tomás, Cutervo, Cajamarca, con el objetivo de precisar la flora medicinal utilizada por sus pobladores. La metodología involucró la determinación del tamaño de muestra y la realización de entrevistas semiestructuradas mediante la técnica de "bola de nieve" a la población conocedora acerca del uso de las plantas medicinales. Los datos obtenidos abarcaron información taxonómica (familia, nombre científico y vulgar) y etnobotánica (partes utilizadas, preparación, administración, Índice de Valor de Uso (IVU) e Índice de Factor de Consenso del Informante (IFC)) de las especies medicinales. Los resultados se sintetizaron en tablas e ilustraciones. Además, se enriqueció esta información con aportes provenientes de artículos científicos y bibliografía especializada. Se identificaron 78 especies medicinales pertenecientes a 73 géneros y 42 familias, donde las Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Poaceae y Apiaceae fueron las más representativas. Así mismo, las especies Equisetum bogotense, Piper aduncum, Musa paradisiaca, entre otras, fueron resaltadas por su alta importancia según su Índice de Valor de Uso (IVU). Se observó además que las especies herbáceas prevalecen (62%) en comparación con las arbóreas (27%) y arbustivas (11%). La hoja fue la parte más utilizada (45%), destacándose la tisana (36%) y la infusión (30%) como formas de preparación comunes. La administración oral fue predominante (78%). Finalmente se documentaron 59 dolencias y/o enfermedades agrupadas en 11 categorías, siendo las enfermedades del sistema respiratorio, urinario, digestivo, reproductivo, nervioso y cardiovascular las mayormente tratadas con plantas medicinales.
Nowadays, preserving ancestral knowledge about the use of medicinal flora in Andean-Amazonian communities is urgently needed in the face of globalization and other events that increasingly distance us from our cultural roots. The methodology involved determining the sample size and conducting semi-structured interviews using the "snowball sampling" technique with individuals knowledgeable about the use of medicinal plants. The collected data encompassed taxonomic information (family, scientific and common names) and ethnobotanical details (parts used, preparation, administration, Index of Use Value (IVU), and Informant Consensus Factor (IFC)) of the medicinal species. The findings were summarized in tables and illustrations. Additionally, the information was enriched with insights from scientific articles and specialized literature. A total of 78 medicinal species belonging to 73 genera and 42 families were identified, with Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Poaceae, and Apiaceae being the most representative. Similarly, species like Equisetum bogotense, Piper aduncum, Musa paradisiaca, among others, were highlighted for their high importance according to their Index of Use Value (IVU). It was also observed that herbaceous species prevail (62%) compared to arboreal (27%) and shrubby (11%) species. Leaves were the most commonly used part (45%), with herbal tea (36%) and infusion (30%) being common forms of preparation. Oral administration was predominant (78%).
