ABSTRACT The project “Design of the main pipe maintenance system with Polly Pigs. Fundo Remanso-Modulo P. Chavimochic. Chao. La Libertad. 2021” arose due to the need to keep clean the main pipes that have been operating for 4 years without prior maintenance, which caused the accumulation of slag and sediment on their internal walls; The study area is supplied with irrigation water from the Santa River, conducted by the Chavimochic canal; it has good chemical quality, however there are problems in physical quality due to sediments (silts, clays) that are carried, and that often evade pre-irrigation treatments, such as settling in sedimentation ponds and filter heads, being able to reach main pipes and even more drippers, causing obstruction, thus avoiding efficient irrigation with the pressure and flow of the initial design. The main objective was to design the main pipe maintenance system with Polly Pigs and the specific objectives were: to evaluate the physical quality of the water before and after the existing sedimentation ponds and at the outlet of the existing filter head, to design the maintenance system main pipe by washing with Polly Pigs and determine costs and budgets; To meet the proposed objectives, an applied, descriptive and oriented research was carried out. The design of the washing system includes 21 assemblies of Polly Pigs entry-only points and 9 assemblies of Polly Pigs entry and exit points, these are cylindrical sponge elements that travel up to 1000 meters with a certain reduction in diameter; the path of the Polly Pig causes friction with the internal walls of the pipe, loosening and dragging the accumulated sediments and slag. The physical quality of the Chavimochic canal water was evaluated, finding that the turbidity is high, as well as the value of Total Suspended Solids, which promotes the partial obstruction of the matrix network. Using the Epanet software, the head losses due to conduction in the main pipe without washing with Polly Pig and with Polly Pig washing were also evaluated, finding a 13% reduction in losses due to conduction in the main network with washing with respect to losses in a network without washing. Finally, the budget for the execution of the design was determined, which is three hundred and ninety-two thousand five hundred and sixty-two with 81/100 nuevos soles.
