ABSTRACT The research project "Development of 25 hectares of uncultivated land for pitahaya (stenocereus thurberi) cultivation, with drip irrigation in the Algarrobo farm, Quebrada Honda sector, Gran Chimú province, La Libertad region. 2019." It arose from the need for technical information in the small farmers of this area, their crops do not produce enough and are not profitable; being this the central problem, this project intends to show a more technological and more effective irrigation system so it will be shown to farmers in the area that this system is very effective and thus can get a better production in their crops; for this, the design of a drip irrigation system was made to make possible arid lands in production lands for growing pitahaya, which this fruit is in high demand in recent years and the best thing is its high value in the market both nationally and internationally. To carry out the design we started with field work such as planning, land survey, topography, water and soil sampling, among others, and finally the cabinet work we proceeded to carry out the agronomic and hydraulic design, metrics, costs and budget. As a result of the design we obtained the distribution of the land for cultivation in 6 irrigation shifts to ensure better control, main network pipes from 63mm to 110 mm, a sand trap in the catchment, a pumping network to the reservoir in two sections with 2 diesel motor pumps of 60 hp each and a pipe diameter of 140mm; a reservoir lined with geomembrane of 5,000 m3, a control head, irrigation arches, irrigation portal and compensated hoses for irrigation for 19. 23 ha. 2 sand filters to maintain the system in optimal conditions. It was estimated a cost of installation and production of pitahaya per hectare of six hundred nineteen thousand three hundred twenty-nine and 42/100 nuevos soles.
