ABSTRACT The present research work was carried out in the town of Pacanga with the objective of studying the chemical control of Spodoptera frugiperda J. E. Smith in Zea mays L. in the fields of farmers who sow maize as an alternative crop. the parameters evaluated were: insecticides that use, frequency of application, dose of application, number of applications, costs of chemical control, production costs, yield, among others; The collection of said data was obtained by applying a survey to 25 farmers who grow that crop. It is concluded that the farmers of Pacanga, every year increase the number of applications of insecticides, from 2015 to 2017 they increased from 3 to 6 applications; also increasing the dose of frequently used active ingredients such as: methomil that started with 100 g / 200 l until reaching 200 g / 200 l, alfacypermethrin with 150 ml / 200 l up to 300 ml / 200 l and chlorpyrifos that started with 400 ml / 200 l until you reach 500 ml / 200l, hence the production costs that were from 4700 to 5800 soles, respectively. Also, each year corn crop yields decrease because they can not efficiently control Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith
