Abstract The objective of this research was to present the theory and statistical methodology on the application of the logistic model where the risk factors associated with type II diabetes mellitus were analyzed and found at the Jerusalem de La Esperanza hospital. The importance of this study lies in knowing the most significant risk factors that are associated with diabetes and explaining the presence of the disease. The sample is made up of 661 patients from the Jerusalem de La Esperanza hospital, which are all the patients of the population registered in the months of January to June 2016. The multiple logistic regression model was used to find the significant risk factors that explain diabetes disease in the study sample. The study is cross-sectional correlational. The study concludes that age (greater than or equal 30) (p = 0.001), BMI (prone) (p = 0.000), sedentary lifestyle (p = 0.000), family history of diabetes (p = 0.000) and diet poorly healthy (p = 0.000) are quite significant, and help to explain the presence of type II diabetes mellitus in patients, based on a significance level of 5%
