ABSTRACT The purpose of this report was to compare the chromatographic profiles and quantify total alkaloids and quinine from extracts of two Cinchona species from the Cajamarca region. Cinchona plants were collected in the rural area of the town of Cascarilla, province of Jaén, Cajamarca region. The bark of both plants was separated and these samples were ground and sieved. Phytochemical screening was performed by coloration and precipitation reactions and the following phytoconstituents were identified: phenols, alkaloids, saponins, quinones, triterpenes and steroids. Subsequently, the identification of quinine was carried out by thin layer chromatography. For this, the bark samples of each species of Cinchona were degreased with hexane using Soxhlet equipment, then 3 types of extracts were prepared: acidified aqueous (A), acidified hydroalcoholic (HA) and 70% ethanolic (E), sonic and it was taken to the rotary evaporator to eliminate the solvent and then to dryness. Subsequently, these extracts were dissolved in suitable solvents for thin- layer chromatography (TLC) testing. When quantifying the total alkaloids, it was determined that Cinchona sp contains more alkaloids than Cinchona micrantha. Chromatographic profiles and quinine quantification were obtained by Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC). It was determined that Cinchona sp. contains a higher percentage of quinine in its 3 extracts: A=0,0079g%, HA=0,0442g% and E=0,0531g% compared to C. micrantha.
