In Peruvian university education, physical activity (PA) levels are very deficient, and many of these patterns persist into adulthood, leading to a sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, when referring to university students, it is important to consider sociodemographic data due to its close relationship with the physical-affective state that can influence their academic process. Objectives: To determine the association between sociodemographic characteristics and physical activity in students. Population: 137 university students. Material and Method: Hypothetico-deductive approach; Quantitative; Non-experimental, cross-sectional design. For the sociodemographic characteristics variable, a survey was applied using a sociodemographic data sheet, and for physical activity, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short version was used. Results: The students presented a moderate level of physical activity, with an average of 383.8 ±586.8 meters/week. The time spent sitting was 272.3 minutes/day. Regarding BMI, 56.2% had a normal BMI. Concerning gender, 78.1% were women, 50.4% were between the ages of 22 and 30, while 85.4% were single, 85.4% came from urban areas, and 73.7% worked. Additionally, 21.2% had children, 83.2% attended 4 courses, 78.8% spent more than 4 hours daily studying, and 44.5% were in the 6th academic cycle. The origin of the students showed a significant difference (p-value = 0.039), with a higher percentage of students from urban areas in all NAF (national physical activity frequencies). Students who work tend to engage in moderate physical activity more frequently than those who do not work (p-value = 0.006 < 0.05). Students who take only one course have a significantly higher frequency of light and moderate physical activity compared to those who take more courses, with p-values of 0.009 and 0.045. In terms of duration, physical activity varies significantly with the number of courses: those who take only one course dedicate more time to light and moderate physical activity (300 and 1016 minutes, respectively), with p-values of 0.020 and 0.022. Conclusion: Sociodemographic characteristics do not present an association with students' physical activity. However, employment status, the number of courses, and origin are factors that influence university students' physical activity.
